Recruiting loan officers in a competitive mortgage market requires more than a pitch deck — it requires proof. The Motto Mortgage 300 franchise owner had been using an Excel spreadsheet to show recruits how their income would change by switching to Motto's compensation model. The spreadsheet worked, but it felt static and unimpressive during live presentations. Recruits would squint at cells while the presenter manually changed input values, killing the momentum of an otherwise compelling conversation.
We rebuilt the comparison tool as a branded web application with the Motto Mortgage visual identity front and center. The interface uses dual slider controls — one for loans closed per month, another for average loan amount — that update both compensation columns simultaneously. As a recruit drags the slider, they watch their projected Motto income climb in real-time alongside their current BPS-based compensation. The psychological impact of seeing the numbers move is far more persuasive than a static spreadsheet cell.
The technical conversion involved replicating Excel's BPS (basis points) compensation formulas and Motto's tiered rate structure. We built the calculation engine in Vue.js for instant reactivity, with Firebase handling data persistence so franchise owners could save and revisit projection scenarios for specific recruits. The branded design uses custom typography and Motto's corporate color palette, making the calculator feel like a polished internal tool rather than a converted spreadsheet.
The "Calculate My Pay Raise" call-to-action button was a deliberate design choice — it reframes the tool from a dry financial comparison into an aspirational exercise. This small UX decision, combined with the real-time slider interaction, transformed recruiting presentations from data-sharing sessions into interactive experiences that let recruits sell themselves on the opportunity.
